The meaning of the word elder is "older man."
The meaning of the word elder is "older." That the older person is male is assumed by some, including JWs.
i've come to love and cherish much of the wisdom that emanates from the dear ladies of this forum and believe watchtower boobed in making all women subservient to the men.
so, do you think women would make good elders?.

so jehovah's witnesses can't claim the moral highground when it comes to being faithful to their marriage mates.. http://www.hfxnews.ca/index.cfm?sid=86808&sc=89.
faith and marital fidelity go hand in hand: study .
shannon proudfoot.
Of course, the JW reply will be that once a person has committed marital infidelity, s/he is longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
i've been around for awhile, but never registered for fear of giving my personal information (yes, that's how much the borg scares me.
i was raised in the org, and left when i was 18. i realized that every religion firmly believed that they were correct, and that forced me to re-evaluate the religion on its merits, as opposed to my insistent belief.
needless to say, i saw the man behind the curtain.
I'm so sorry about the loss of your cousin, and the behavior of your family.
Remember that you never, ever, have to speak or meet with anyone if you don't want to -- that includes the elders. It's easy to forget that when you've been raised to believe in their authority. If they ask to meet with you, say no. If you have caller ID, don't answer the phone when they call.
Be strong, and remember, your life is yours to live and no one else's. Live the life you want, and make that life a memorial to your cousin.
i have this happen to my eye almost monthly and i was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this?
i have read that docs usually don't treat it unless it's secondary to hypertension.
my bp is very normal i am am not taking any anticoagulants.
I don't think ice will help. The blood needs to be resorbed, and I don't see how ice would speed that process.
why do people drive so crazy around the christmas holiday?
i think just about all of my family members have been "cut-off" or had a fender bender in the last week or so.
what happened to being respectful to others?
Probably a lot of people drink and drive during the holiday season. Lots of parties are going on.
Lots of people tired, stressed, and rushing, too. There's more traffic, because people are driving around shopping and visiting and running errands.
I thought this was a good point:
"How can I condemn someone for what they believe and I believe that God was born from a pregnant virgin?" Will queried.
And funny, too.
i've now been out of the organisation for over two years.
i stay quite close to a kingdom hall - drive past it every day - whenever i look at it i have this huge sense of relief wash over me - this is every day - and is such a good feeling.
i thank god i'm no long trapped in that organisation, that i'm not limited in what i can do.. the sense of relief is so wonderful - i'd like to know if even after years do you still feel that.. it feels like little champaign bubbles popping in my stomach..
I've been out for nearly 30 years, and I make a point of trying to remember that feeling, and if possible re-create it now and then, so that I don't take my freedom for granted. I remember how exciting it was, when I first left for college, to not go to a meeting on Thursday night!
isn't it amazing to see that the wts are fond of decrying christmas, yet each year they publish a christmas edition of the watchtower magazine!.
they make all sorts of claims about christmas and how wrong it is and all that but never fail to bring feature articles in thir december issues that take advantage of that.. what hypocrites!.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! So here you are at the local mall, bakery, what-not-store etc. The proprietor or a fellow customer says to you" MERRY CHRISTMAS". You are supposed to come out with company's canned response, "GEE, I'm sorry, but I, we , they, don't celebrate Christmas. "
My JW mom has always responded to "Merry Christmas" in that context with "Thank you," and she taught her four childrent to do the same. A neighbor might get the spiel, but a cashier or sales clerk wouldn't.
usually, i enjoyed the public talk, if the speaker was good but i thought the theocratic ministry was boring!!!.
the service meeting was just a sales meeting.
the book studies were simply ridiculous.
The Service Meeting. Especially if the young boy assigned to the Bible reading droned on in ann awkward monotone, mangling the pronunciation of every word longer than two syllables. Our congregation included two school districts, a good one and a not-so-good one, and my mom and I could usually tell which school district the Bible reader went to based on his reading skill or lack thereof.
if one is assigned to do a public talk.
prepares for it and proceudes to give it.
if that person gives the talk but does not give the information that is spoon fed but shares his or her own researched material and it still relates to the topic is that person immediately taken off stage?
Good question, I don't know.
Anybody want to try it and find out?
